Foundation to Year 9
What she teaches, and how
Every service starts from the same place: an assessment, then a plan that targets what that assessment found.
Areas of focus
- Excelling high-ability students
- Supporting struggling students to reach the standard
- Dyslexia specialisation
- NAPLAN and PAT preparation for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9
Spelling and early phonics
F to Y9
MSL multi-sensory approach, specialised for dyslexia and dysgraphia.
Spelling is taught through a multi-sensory learning (MSL) approach, which means a student sees, hears, says and writes a pattern rather than trying to memorise a list on Thursday night.
This is the area of specialisation for students with dyslexia and dysgraphia. The sequence is explicit and cumulative, so nothing is assumed and nothing is skipped.
Writing
F to Y9
Evidence-based, explicit, built from the sentence up.
Writing is not a natural skill. It has to be carefully and systematically taught, and that belief shapes every writing session.
The approach emphasises explicit instruction and sentence-level work, because a student who cannot control a sentence cannot control a paragraph. It also treats writing and thinking as the same job: clearer sentences are the visible result of clearer thinking.
Mathematics
F to Y9
Concrete to pictorial to abstract, hands-on and tailored.
Maths runs on a concrete, pictorial, abstract sequence. Hands-on materials first, then visual models, then the abstract symbols, so the symbols mean something by the time they arrive.
Lessons stay interactive and genuinely fun, which matters more in maths than in any other subject, because a student who feels safe enough to ask a question or take a risk is a student who will make progress. Pace and goals are set per student.
NAPLAN preparation
3, 5, 7, 9
Numeracy, Language Conventions and Writing.
Preparation for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9, across Numeracy, Language Conventions and Writing.
The work starts from a practice assessment so that time is spent on the skills your child actually needs, rather than working through a booklet from front to back. Exam-style questions are used to build familiarity and take the strangeness out of the test.
PAT testing preparation
F to Y9
Familiarity with the format, and the skills underneath it.
Preparation for PAT assessments, covering both the format itself and the underlying skills the assessment measures.
As with NAPLAN, preparation begins with data. The point is not to drill a test, it is to find and close the gaps the test will otherwise expose.
High Abilities Program
F to Y9
Extension for students who are already ahead.
Extension for high-achieving students who have finished the work and are waiting for the rest of the class.
Sessions push depth rather than volume: harder problems, richer texts, and tasks that ask a student to explain and justify rather than simply answer.
Wider curriculum, Humanities
F to Y9
Support across the wider Victorian Curriculum.
Support across the wider curriculum, including Humanities, for students who need help with subject content, research and structuring what they have found.
Music tuition and theory
L1 to LMusA
Music theory support from Level 1 through to LMusA.
Music theory support from Level 1 through to LMusA, taught by someone with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interactive Music Composition alongside a Master of Teaching.
This suits students working towards graded theory examinations as well as instrumentalists whose theory has fallen behind their playing.
